Basketball
Thanks to all the students who came out and to all of
the volunteer coaches who have worked hard to plan teams
that keep everyone playing and avoiding cuts again this year.
Some things to note about the program this year:
-
Per N.J. State requirements, players in the 6th grade and above must
complete additional medical forms and return them to the
school nurse. Your doctor must indicate that your child
is eligible to play sports. More information can be
found on the Sports page, or by
contacting the office.
Your child CANNOT practice until the form is completed.
-
The participation fee this year will be communicated at
the first practice.
-
Families are required to work at the concessions stand.
Rose McEwen, the concession coordinator, will ask each
coach for a parent coordinator for the team.
-
A
$50
uniform deposit is required. Please date a check to
April 1, 2010. Your check will not be cashed, but will
be returned to you when the uniform is returned. Checks
will be cashed for uniforms not returned or those that
have been
significantly damaged.
Your coaches will be in touch with you soon to schedule
practices.
Our coaches have committed their time to afford every child
the opportunity to play at Holy Trinity. Families need to
make the same commitment to their team. There will be
holidays, vacations, sickness, injuries, and many other
distractions throughout the season. Family, Faith and
School should all come first. The commitment to your team
must be just as high. We ask all of you to commit to your
teammates to make every possible effort to be at practices
and games. Both are equally important for the overall
benefit of the team. The game and practice schedules will
be set within the next few weeks. If you have a conflict,
tell your coach as soon as possible. Otherwise, as much as
possible, schedule other events around the team schedule.
Thank you all and have a great season!

About our Basketball Program
Leagues: Holy Trinity uses
a variety of leagues, in an effort to provide the best
possible basketball experience for our students. Some
leagues offer B and C level options, which may be more
appropriate for some of our teams. The final
determination of the appropriate league or leagues for a
team will be made between the coach and the basketball
director. In some cases, more than one league may be
used, or additional tournaments will be entered, to provide
a reasonable number of games. Leagues in which we have
competed in the past include: Suburban Catholic Boys League,
Suburban Catholic Girls League, Union County CYO (Boys and
Girls), and Garden State Basketball League (Boys and Girls).
Team assignments cannot be made
based on other leagues a child might plan to play in, for
other teams. Please be aware, that if your child
plans to try-out for a parish or town team, he or she may
end up in the same league as the school team. Leagues
do not allow players to double roster.
Practices/Games: Practices
will begin late October or early November. Games can begin
in mid-December and usually continue through March.
Commitment: Students are
expected to commit to the team they are assigned to, by full
participation in practices and games. There are no
minimum playing time requirements in many of these leagues.
Coaches will have discretion with regard to playing time and
rewarding individual player effort. Students are also
expected to maintain a level of academic standing during the
season, consistent with their already established abilities.
The coach and the athletic director will work with the
school administration in deciding an appropriate response to
any academic or disciplinary issues that may arise.
Registration Fee: Fees are calculated based on the
estimated cost of the regular season league and referee
fees, as well as uniform and equipment maintenance.
Additional tournaments may be entered, at the discretion
of the head coach. Any additional fees associated with a
tournament must be covered by the team members. Approximately 25% of basketball expenses
are offset by concessions sold during the games and by
fund raising. Parents are always needed to help with
concessions and hospitality in support of the basketball
program.
Medical: A Medical
form must be completed and sent to the School Nurse, prior
to try-outs.
Volunteers: Coaches are always
in need of help and are always willing to teach new
volunteers. They especially need score keepers,
clock/scoreboard operators and team parents.
